MUSIC FESTIVAL & INTEGRATED SOCIAL EXPERIENCE

A partnership with veteren festival promoters Cattleyard (Groovin’ the Moo) led to the creation of The Plot. A fusion of Live Event and Online Experiences. Circa 2013

I was previously a Development Director and co-counder of Emotum, an application developer providing bespoke and off-shelf solutions to the telecommunications industry in Australia, Europe and Asia. Emotum provides customer self help and support software solutions with a focus on User Experience and usability best practices, all conceived, developed and deployed in house by the company.

Self Install Kit

A software application, typically installed off CD, designed to help customers self-activate their broadband connection (no easy feat, even today), with the primary goal of reducing or eliminating the need for an on-site technician or even a support call. Later iterations were able to be deployed via the routers/CPE alone. Originally developed for the local market (OzEmail, Optus, Telstra and many others), we were able to take Self Install Kit to a global market, with customers all across Scandanavia (Telenor, Bredbandsbolaget, Elisa, Canal Digital and more).

Connection Centre

Connection Centre was designed for download and install post-activation for Windows clients as a sort of “one-stop-shop” for everything to do with your fixed line broadband service and home network including Wi-Fi setup & troubleshooting, user guides, access to services, notifications, diagnostic tools and customer feedback. With a mandate to reduce customer support costs and drive customer satisfaction, Connection Centre proved to be an invaluable tool for customers and support teams alike for our Scandinavian customers.

Mobile Broadband Client

With a burgeoning mobile broadband market emerging in the early 2000’s, Emotum saw a opportunity to improve the experience of a class of software that had received very little love with regards to design first-principles or a focus on user experience - mobile broadband clients for USB/Wi-Fi based cellular modems. Emotum was able to develop a simple, localizable Mobile Broadband Client, inspired by the best parts of the Self Install Kit and the Connection Centre, while dealing with the other unique requirements such as SMS, VPN support and roaming concerns.

One more thing…

During my time at Emotum, I co-designed and authored several software products to help solve issues for Tier-1 telcos from different countries around the world. It was a real privilege to travel all over the world, learning how to make great software and how to run a successful global business. It was an opportunity not many young aspiring professionals get.
